Venezuela!
I
laid over in Venezuela for several months with Sparrow, mostly in Puerto
La Cruz. There I hauled out for some drydock work, and hung out with
some new friends, none of whom spoke English. Needless to say, my
Spanish improved muy rapido!
My
father came down for a visit and together we traveled inland by car,
plane, horseback and dugout canoe. The indian child pictured above sat
by a roadside high in the Andes,

where father and son scaled the snowcapped peaks of Merida.
A
day later we hopped aboard a cheap, local flight through Caracas and on
to the Amazon Rain Forest, far, far up the Orinoco River.

Dad's a herpetologist; never so happy as when he's found another reptile.
whereas my tastes...
run
along
different lines.
But
father and son found a mutual thrill deep in the Amazon rain forest when
we visited an astonishingly primitive tribe of Piahroa Indians. When I get
a chance to scan in those photos, I'll tell you about it.
Meanwhile, click
onward for a little love in Grenada.
