Your
name Hi Tor, I came upon your name while trying to find an
out-of-print book about the Pinney's in the Carribean.
Thought I would just drop you a line as long as I was
visiting. I know geneology isn't everyone's "cup of
tea" but if you have any knowlege at all of your
geneology I would be most interested in knowing whatever
you can provide of your ancestors. My Great-Grandparents
were John & Dinah Pinney who came over from England in
the early 1800s. My grandfather was Walter Pinney, one of
9 children. My family is extensive and close here in
rural, central NYS. I haven't read up on your adventures
yet but will do so after this note. I look forward to
hearing from you. Best Regards, Linda Marie (Pinney)

Enjoyed
your stories I believe I first came to your page several
months looking for sailing stories, starting at
Altavista's Sailing and Boating category. I don't think
your page was directly listed (I can't remember for sure)
but that I jumped to it from one of the pages that was,
among the first 50 links. I thoroughly enjoyed your
sailing stories, especially the ship of fools one and the
one where you met Tristan Jones. Having heard that name
from several sources, including you, I picked up and read
about 4 or 5 Tristan Jones books in the last two months.
Truly amazing stuff! I envy your good fortune at having
met this adventurer and liver of life. I sail a 1970 23'
SouthCoast in Biscayne Bay. I have not yet ventured far (bay,ICW,Hallandale
to Eliot), but dream about it constantly. Stories like
yours help stoke my daydreams of cruising. So, Thanks
again.

The
net Tor , you asked how we stay on the net/ Well the
easiest is to log on while at a marina via the land line .
whilst at sea or at a remote location we use a comsat
systym we bought while in the uk . It relays a phone/radio
signal to a central reciever and routes email &
voicemail etc .You have to make sure your outgoings are
ready to send as it can be a little expensive if your
"futzing" around. But along with the weatherfax
and the gps it can all be combined . Ah.. modern science
and the wind in your sails and a g&t ..It don't get ay
better.............

Just
to say hello Hey Tor--I was just cruising the net and ran
across your name. Good to see you among the living. Glad
to see you're still in the boat business since you're one
of the finest yacht brokers around. I've always got a
place for you to stay in Miami so make sure to stop by and
say hello next time you're back around your old stomping
grounds. Been thinking about getting another Flika or
Dania. Keep that in mind.

How
I got here... I used the "HOTBOT" search engine
to find your homepage. Then I "surfed" the
links. Fantastic site! Great to "catch-up" on
what's happening in your life. Wish you the very best in
your new "adventure." LOVED your photos,
especially the lead one on your page 4, the 3-generations!
My favorite link, of course, is to "SON OF A DAUGHTER
OF A SAILOR." (B-T-Y, your link has the wrong slash
\\ and should be /. My screen shows me what the link is,
and I figured all the other slaches were /, so the one \\
needed to be fixed.) "Hilsen" fra Fort

The
old days How did I find your site? It's a long story, and
nowhere near as fascinating as yours. I have no idea if
you remember me, but I'm from Larchmont, too. I was in
Roy's class at MHS and was among the many Dolphins fans
who congregated at your house to watch rehearsals.
"Surfing East Coast" has stayed with me and
somewhere in my house is a cassette copy of the song. When
I moved to California 20 years ago I wote a treatment for
a screenplay based loosely on the band...a high school
group that stumbled onto a hit record in the early '60s
and fell apart when they went their separate ways. Some
agent/producer types were fascinated by the story but
couldn't imagine a studio making it. Fast forward a couple
of decades and out comes 'That Thing You Do,' and I've
been kicking myself for not pushing harder. When that
movie came out, I couldn't help but think of the Dolphins
again. So one day, while surfing (the net, this time), I
found your home page which is utterly fas

How
I Got Here From There Tor Really enjoyed your stories and
advice (read them all). Done some deliveries myself. Been
through Force 11 in the Stream on a 37' ketch; made some
of the same novice mistakes a decade ago. Still keeping
the water out and the people in... Anyway, here's my path
to your door: Caught a recent BBS post re: Captain John
Rains having a homepage and, having read his book 'Passagemaker's
Handbook', thought I'd try to find it. Used
NorthernLight.com search engine (highly recommend it-slow
but does excellent job of sorting into folders according
to subject) and search phrase "Captain John Rains
yacht delivery". That yielded a link to your story
about delivery prep. Not finding any links, but
remembering from the pages of Cruising World that you were
one of my favorite authors, I did a search using your
name, which yielded your homepage as #4 listing. I guess
the key words were "yacht delivery". When you
get your hiking boots and cowboy hat off and you

Sea
stories Great sea stories cap! Nobody loves a good sea
story more than me. You're lucky you have a forum.
Whenever I try and tell my sea stories, my children spit
their food at me and call me an "eco-terrorist".
By the way, I'd omit that part about about spilling your
coffee. The E.P.A. seems to be unusually pre-occupied with
what goes "by the board" if you know what I
mean. Happy Sails/Trails!

heritage...many fine portugese sailors in world history!
Take care. Dee

found your page through the site, http:\\
www.askjeeeves.com after asking it about find information
on sailing. I used to sail a tiny boat with my brother
when we were children. I live in a sailing area in NC now
and am fantasizing about affording a boat, not bloody
likely on my teacher's salary, but it's interesting to
read about other folks adventures, plan to see if our
library has your book about outfitting a boat. It'll be
interesting reading even if I don't ever have a boat of my
own. :-)
