Possibly you could write a screenplay. If
interested, I can send you a script writer's
outline. Follow the steps and you'll have a
screenplay done in three weeks.

Tor,
Saw your pic of the "Savages" on my
wife's FB. She is "Friends" with John
Sarlo..she of MHS Class of 69..her name then,
Diana Stewart. I am Bill Yergin, MHS 67. When I
saw it I called Tony Bouchard and spoke to
him..he and I were in the "Specs"
together at MHS and have kept up with each other
these last few years. I loved reading your
history of bands in the 60s. I gabe tony you
link so he could read it as well. I don't know
if you are aware that in the "Specs"
was also Marc Ellis. During the summer of 1968,
he and I and four other guys from the Suffern,
NY area formed a band that was signed to a
record deal that summer and we went on to
release two LPs that were released in 1968 and
1969. The band was the "Rainbow Press"
and the LPs were "There's a War On"
and "Sunday Funnies" Both are
considered collectors items, sold all over the
world and have been bootlegged on vinyl in
Europe and well as bootlegged on CD in England
and Spain. If you are so interested to read more
about our exploits that summer, you can go to my
present band's website www.Bluesmatic.com and
click on my Bio and there is a link there to an
on line interview I did a couple years ago about
the little known history of the band. Keep
playing..there was an incredible array of
musical talent at MHS in those years. Bill

Tor,
I just read your first book and it was extremely
informative and easy to understand. I am not
much the sailor with only a few excursions over
the years and moost did not go well due to lack
of skill...but I have grown up on power boats
and have lived on the water in NJ for the last
20 years, which is currently frozen. I am
dreaming of a nautical adventure and reading
your book was the first step in learning more
about what I need to know. You have certainly
lead a charmed life and seemed to have lived
several different lives all at the same time.
Good for you!
Thanks for a wonderful read!

The
Chains played my home town Deming,NM in I
beleive 1968. I had band, we were all there, and
you guys were really great. We got there(The
Rose Room)early, and you guys didn't blow us off
as a bunch of kids probably asking way too many
questions like how do you play this or that? You
guys were a great band, and decent human-beings.

Hi
Tor (and Roy),
I'm in El Paso where people still remember The
Chains. I had the 45 rpms of "Ain't Gonna
Eat Out My Heart Anymore" and "I
Should Have Stayed." I sold them to a local
memorabilia dealer who had been looking for them
for over 30 years. He had just been diagnosed
with malignant melanoma so I parted with my
beloved records because he wanted them so badly.
Lots of people tried to buy them from him but he
wouldn't sell them. Sadly, he died in August
2009 and his store, The Time Capsule, closed.
But I have your music on the 60s garage bands CD
which is great! My class is having a big reunion
soon and we'll be dancing to that CD. We all
send our regards to you, Roy, and Brian (he wore
those fabulous striped bellbottoms). You are
such a part of our teen years, we'll never
forget you!

Tor,
Just happened across your page, and scratched my
head. Finally put it together - met you on
Sparrow in the Med many moons ago, while I was
cruising with my kids and my now ex-wife on Emma
Louisa, a Moody 42. Very brief encounter, and I
picked your brain lots about boats. Now have a
Gulfstar 40 in Curacao, and heading west, but
maybe up to Honduras and Belize, before Panama.
Good luck with your next adventure, and hope to
connect in some anchorage - may your anchor
never drag - ha ha!

Hello
Tor. I enjoyed reading the history of your
musical odyssey. I met and interviewed The
Chains in Las Cruces prior to you joining the
group. My friend and I had plans of submitting
an article to a teen magazine about our fabulous
local band. But alas, DJ Tim put the nix on
that. I still have the photos we took laying
around here somewhere if you are interested in
seeing them - let me know.

My Dear Child,
Here is a web site you should visit:

actually able to read long sentences, I also
recommend that you apply yourself to the book,
"How to Win Friends and Influence

Best of luck on your path to enlightenment. It's

I
have really enjoyed your site, Tor. I am a
retired drummer that played in local bands in

I was with while you guys were also "Rockin"

you guys. I remember Roy Pinney and The Chains
like it was yesterday. Do you have any video on
You Tube?
If you do, please let me know and I will link it

pictures and anecdotes to put on my site, so
please send me anything you would like to share.

Tor,
Thanks for taking the time to share a meal with
Mom and my sisters. What a great time! You made
a very favorable impression on everyone.
I really enjoyed your book. It must be accurate
because I agreed with almost everything you
wrote. I have enough nautical experience to
appreciate that you know a *lot* more about
cruising in a sailboat than I do. Next time I am
in your neck of the woods I would like to ask
you a bunch more technical questions.

you won't remember me, but I was a good friend
of Freds, from Roswell (also dated Bob Hauck,
his room mate from Farmington and UNM station
DJ) during the early Chains days. I personaly
belived that your band was going to be huge, and
was quite sorry that you guys didn't survive as
a band.
Nice to know there is still some of the Chains
endevours around.
Hugs!

Hello
Tor,
Let's start by saying what a great site and what
a hell of a life style.
I've been living in Europe since the early 70's,
England till 2001 when I remarried great Belgium
gal and have been living here since. I have two
children from my first wife, a son and a
daughter. Also two grandchildren from my
daughter who all live in England so it's not to
far for a visit now and then.
My wife and I came over to the U.S. this summer
and met up with your brother and Laurie at my
cousins summer house in Conn.( you remember
Joann Thompson, out of you class) Had two great
days reminiscing of times gone by. Some of them
were a bit hard to pull out of the old memory
bank, must be the age. Took a side trip to good
old Larchmont and had a walk along the Manor
Park. Your old house looks just the same, but
with out the Corvette and boats on the drive. We
also paied a visit to Frank Mambelli
(unannounced) and he just about fainted.
Well if your ever sailing around the North Sea,
Belgium has some nice harbors and I'm only an
hours drive, let me know,OK.
You take care now on all your adventurous trips
cause I'll be readind about them.
All the best
Bob Seymour

I was cleaning out a drawer and found my
grandfathers wallet. Inside was your card. I
crewed aboard Buccaneer from St. John USVI to
Ft. Lauder dale in the spring of of 81(?). Do
you remember the trip? Seemed like endless
downwind with a double head sails rigged. Felt
like we swung across 30 degrees with each
following sea. Just having the two of us aboard,
after your par amour left in P.R., made for less
sleep then I would have liked. If I remember
right the food situation was a bit sparse too. I
have good memories of P.R. Haiti and Puerto
Plata D.R.. I visited my Grandmother in West
Palm afterwords and thus your card being in my
Grandpas old wallet. Much water under the bridge
since then. I live on Martha's Vineyard and
build houses for rich folks mostly. It looks
like you are well. Cheers. Dan.

back in El Paso in the 60s. I stumbled across

them at Cathedral and Elks Lodge dances.

Great
info on Rio Dulce....wonder if there have been
any changes in the past 10 years!
Good suggestions on anchoring as well. We have
cruised for several years, then returned to
replenish the cruising kitty for a few more,
acquired another boat and will be ready in a few
years to head out to the western caribbean!

Hi
again, Tor, it's been a few years since we
exchanged e-mails. Things are fine here, thank
Goodness. My MHS wrestling buddy, Joel Sanoff,
recently sent me your super-CD of Garageband
music. I can't believe how good Brian Kelly was
on organ. I always knew it, even back then, but
it's kinda scary for me, as a professional
musician to listen to it today! He's got that
exciting raw feel. Please say hi to Sarah for
me. Her friends Dawn and Johnny Sarlo (a fine
singer, btw) are grandparents now, and they're
moving north. Happy and safe cruising. Looking
forward to you rescuing the cast of the TV
series "LOST" so my girlfriend can
stop watching it on Wednesday nights... jk.
Thanks. Tommy

Hello
there Tor,
I came to your site looking for information on
mizzen staysails. I liked the info given and
would like to pick your brain a little more
concerning technics for ketches/yawls. I perused
some of your photo's and was impressed too. Way
too much fun. The admiral and I are aspiring
cruisers. We have the boat and are in the
process of fitting her out. I'm going to contact
by regular E mail with some specifics. Wonderful
site!!!.... TNX

WASSUP????
Long time no see.Came across your site by
accident.Glad to see all is well and you're
living an exiting life. Good for you!
Me? Believe it or not I'm still in Larchmont and
STILL playing bass.I've been in a few successful
bands and am currently in a new one. (PURSUIT)
My chops are pretty freakin good if I do say so
myself! Got a new fender P -- sounds awesome.
That makes 5 to pick from including a 60's
Hagstrom. Remember them? The list includes a
Peavey t-40, weighs about 100 lbs. but has a
good mellow sound, the unplayable hagstrom (just
a decoration) the Fender-P , a Fender -J (not
currently in my possession) I think it's being
used as a voodoo doll by my most recent ex, a
demented violinist who broke my heart, and an
Ernie Ball Stingray, which is actually THE MOST
AWESOME but had to be mothballed cause it was a
gift from her. I can't even look at it yet.
The rest of my life ? I'd have to write a
website like you. It's been a ride though.
Married and divorced twice (it ain't me it's
them!!) Been doing the contracting thing for way
too long, over 20 yrs, looking to make a change
but I haven't got a clue. Oct 21 is a MHS
reunion. 40 yrs !!!!I understand Roy is going to
be there, I'm looking foward to seeing him.
Should be a blast
So Tor,do you remember playing the
"VAT" in Ft. Lee NJ and going directly
to Newark to headline a rock mass? I don,t! I
think that was the beginng of the end for the
"RIOT"
Great site Tor! Thanks for the ink and thanks
for not telling ALL. We'd have to go
underground.

I
was in your house in Mamaroneck, when I was
oh.....about 12 yrs old or so.....My father
owned the Washngton Arms restaurant, on
Mamaroneck harbor. Your site is much
fun......wanderlust is grabbing me!! I miss my
35'Morgan sloop "Labadie". Reading
your site takes me back to my sailing
days......I was a sailboat broker on southeast
17th st in Ft Lauderdale from 1983 to '85! Prior
to that I worked in the CSY yacht factory on
Tampa bay '77-'78, then left on my completely
refitted 35'sloop for 5 years to Grenada and
back!! Hope to see you someday soon! Randy
Hougton.....memories of the old town.........my
gosh!!!
best to you Tor........Jeff in Tampa

Hi
Tor,
I don't know if you remember me or not but we
met in Miami many years ago when you were just
starting out. I have a Tayana 37 (Bold Venture
and we discussed the merits of a T-37 vs a
Crealock 37. Anyway, we will be heading to the
Rio Dulce in May and I came across your article
"A Vein In God's Body" while
researching the area on the internet. Great
article! Makes me anxious to get underway!

Dear
Tor,
Who'd a thunk it? Remember when we thought cold
beer was a big deal? Thinking of you these days
as i'm working on my boat book now. Buffetts
agent says she wants it. How wierd is that? You
are still my Bro.though many miles have gone by.
I was in Bimini in 2001 and bought a CD of a
local band that had 'Layin low in Bimini' on it.
I still like your version much better. Sometimes
i play that old tape you gave me and sing along.
Still great songs! Did you know Kevin Hurley has
a cd out? Give me a shout if you get a chance.
love, Chris
